Finding Balance: How TRU’s Wellness Centre Supports Student Mental Health
February 14, 2025

University life is exciting, but it can also be stressful. Between assignments, deadlines, part-time jobs, and social life, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. At Thompson Rivers University (TRU), the Wellness Centre is a place where students can find support, take a break, and focus on their mental well-being.
A Safe Space to Relax
Located in Old Main 1479, the TRU Wellness Centre is a quiet and welcoming space where students can unwind, play games, enjoy tea, or just take a break. Sometimes, a few moments of relaxation can make a big difference.

Nilam Rai, a fourth-year Computer Science student, found comfort in the centre during exams. “I used to feel so stressed about deadlines, but visiting the Wellness Centre helped me find balance. Just having a space to relax made a big difference,” she says.
Support for Every Student
Everyone experiences stress differently. That’s why the Wellness Centre offers one-on-one wellness planning to help students create personal strategies for managing stress, staying organized, and improving mental health. They also organize wellness events throughout the year to promote self-care.

JP, a second-year Computing Science student, found these resources helpful. “University can be tough, but learning small ways to take care of myself has helped a lot. The staff really listen and help find solutions that work for you,” he says.
Peer Support Through SWAT
The Student Wellness Ambassador Team (SWAT) is a group of student volunteers who promote wellness on campus. They organize events, share resources, and create a supportive community where students can find help when needed.
How to Get Support
If you’re feeling stressed or just need a place to relax, the TRU Wellness Centre is open to all students. You can visit them in Old Main 1479, call 250-828-5010, or email Chelsea Corsi at ccorsi@tru.ca.
